Teacher

Location: Step Up Step Down Program, Sheldon Kennedy Centre of Excellence

1.0 fte

Commencing as soon as a suitable candidate is found until December 31, 2026.

Temporary position replacing a leave of absence.

The successful candidate needs to have the ability to support students in all levels of High School Math and Science. This position is in a specialized mental health treatment program. Previous experience in a mental health or trauma informed background would be an asset.

The Step Up Step Down (SUSD) education program provides specialized, on-site schooling for youth aged 13-17 who are unable to attend community schools due to significant mental health challenges. This program offers a meaningful, inclusive, and hands-on educational experience, ensuring continuity of academic studies and enhanced mental health support in collaboration with students' primary school jurisdictions and community partners. The program also includes an intensive outpatient program, designed to offer mental health programming, treatment planning and goal development to youth and their family/caregivers, supplementing the mental health care they are already receiving. Please visit for more information about Step Up Step Down.

This competition will remain open until a suitable candidate is found and will close without notice once a shortlist has been selected.

Application Process

Applications will only be accepted through Apply to Education by clicking the 'Apply Now' button. Applicants are asked to create a free online portfolio - please for step by step instructions.

Please note that applications submitted in person, email or fax are no longer accepted. A resume, cover letter and list of references are required for all applications.

Red Deer Public Schools is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to inclusive, barrier-free recruitment and selection processes and we welcome applications from all qualified individuals. If accommodations or supports are required for you to attend this interview, please notify us prior to the day of the interview.

By virtue of the submission of an application, the applicant agrees that the Associate Superintendent, People Services or designate can contact previous employers for the purpose of conducting confidential reference checks whether or not the applicant has listed a reference for that employer.

We thank all applicants for their interest but advise that only those selected for an interview will be contacted. A current Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check will be required of new employees.
